Frequently Asked
Questions
Q. How much can I really
save using the information in the book?
A. If you have no negotiation
skills at all you would save approximately $7600 on a
domestic
vehicle in the $25,000 range.
A. If you have great negotiating
skills, know most of the tricks and have went through
this
before you will likely save only about $800 - $1200.
Q. How does the dealer stay in
business when they claim to sell at invoice? The light bill,
with
those bright lights must run thousands a month not counting their
employees.
A. The dealer has many incentive
from the factory that are hidden from your and my view.
They
receive what is called "holdback". These are monies (about 3% of
invoice) they
receive from the manufacture. Some get a refund of the finance
charge or floor-plan
if the
vehicle is sold before the included floor-plan time has expired.
Q. Why do the dealers have to
have so much fine print? The fine print section is larger
than the ad sometimes.
A. Well the idea is to cover all
the bases so they can still make money BUT some
take
advantage of the latitude of the fine print and just downright lie
just so when you
get to
their lot they can get out of the wild promise in the ad and talk
you into buying
another vehicle
at a different price. This is bait and switch and it goes on all the
time.
Q. Why do all the car dealer
radio and TV commercials scream at you?
A. I haven't figured that one out
yet. I usually mute the set when they scream I guess
it goes
back to childhood or something.
